2CARE
(Placebo controlled, high dose CoQ10)
The goal of 2CARE is to assess the effects of high dose CoEnzyme Q10 on the progression of functional decline in HD, as well as the long-term safety and tolerability at the dosage studied. The study is placebo controlled, meaning 50% of patients will receive the study drug, and 50% of the patients will receive placebo, or an inactive pill that looks and tastes like the study drug. The researcher will not know who receives the drug and who receives the placebo. This is a 5 year study of older adolescents and adults patients with symptoms of Huntington’s Disease.
The study will recruit:
- Men/Women age 16 yrs and up
- Participants must be psychiatrically stable
- Participants must be on stable doses of all meds for 4 weeks prior to entering study
- Swallowing difficulties are an exclusion criteria
- Participants are generally early in the course of disease and very/fairly high functioning in terms of independence in activities of daily living
- Participants must have caregiver to participate
- Caregiver must attend in person for at least the first 2 visits, be readily available by phone to provide information throughout the study, and make sure the participants are taking study drug as directed.
