Sarah Dawson
Sarah P. Dawson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who joined NC-CCHD in April 2010. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Guilford College and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. After five years of clinical work, weekly meetings with an experienced supervising therapist, and successful completion of a licensing examination, she earned her Clinical Social Work license.
Sarah began her professional career working as a mental health counselor with families in South Carolina. After relocating to Blacksburg, VA, she served at-risk teenagers and their families as a public school social worker. During that time, she worked as a volunteer therapist with a pro-bono counseling agency. Sarah pursued her interest in providing mental health services to low-income families when she moved to the DC area, holding positions as an intake coordinator and clinical supervisor of a community mental health center. She then learned about the challenges of the health insurance world while doing clinical care coordination for a managed care company. Sarah moved back to North Carolina in 2007, and worked as an intake therapist for Easter Seals UCP of North Carolina.
She welcomed the opportunity to work with NC-CCHD as her professional path had led to an interest in the mind-body connection. In her work with vulnerable populations, she developed an interest in people who experienced physical as well as mental health challenges. She brings her skills as a therapist, care coordinator, and advocate to the HD community. She is committed to helping people affected by HD and their loved ones to lead their best and healthiest lives.
Sarah enjoys Durham Bulls baseball, but still has not decided which local basketball team to cheer for; however, a childhood spent in Tennessee has destined her to be a lifetime UT Volunteers football fan. She enjoys singing, cooking and eating with friends after visits to her local farmer’s market, gardening, and spending time with her family.
